Post subject: | Wave extras |
Hello there, I'm going to buy a wave plus the trailer. Are there any recommendable extras I should get? Many thanks |

Another nice thing about the WAVE... It comes with everything you need to hit the water "flying". Everything else (extras and add-ons) is personal preference. But DO MAKE SURE that you have PFD's for everyone/anyone on board. First: Go sailing. Second: Browse through this board. A bunch of us have been playing, experimenting, inventing. |

I always carry a paddle, bungee'd underneath the back of the tramp, and a "leatherman" tool (just in case) on a carbiner clipped to the down-haul. I added tiller extensions so I could sit farther forward when solo'ing in light winds. There's a separate post with photos of this. A recent addition is a center hiking line. I ran an extra rope down the middle, occasionally looped under the lacing, and through a 2 foot section of swim noodle near the rear crossbar. It's only tied to the crossbars, so no significant strain is put on the grommets. This is a much better location for me than the straps on the tramp. The noodle makes for a nice cushion and is easy to slip my feet under. |

A center hike strap sounds like a great idea. Sometimes, my legs cramp up. It's either knees bent prominantly (not good support) or legs out straight (cramps). For light winds. solo sailing, try this COMFORTABLE sailing position: Sit on the hull, on the hump between the pads, facing backward. Steer with a foot or both on the tiller, hold onto the hiking strap with the inside arm for support, and the mainsheet draped over your lap. This works great out on the open ocean, or anywhere where looking forward isn't necessary all the time |

Post subject: | PFD |
If you are sailing alone, wear your PFD. I did a sudden capsize in our lake one October; water about 60F, high winds got up very suddenly, and I was in the water for 45 minutes until help came. There was no chance of righting the boat on my own, so my PFD kept me afloat, and warm, in 2 to 3 foot waves while I grabbed everything that was floating away and hung on to the hull. You could get hit on the head, you just don't know. So be safe. |
