Post subject:  Old style tramp needs LOTS more holes

I have a 1996 Wave and at that time the boat came with a white one-piece fabric tramp with only two small drain holes (two grommets). This setup isn't bad until a wave comes crashing onto the tramp and the 50 gallons of water try to drain through the two tiny drain holes. I get why they did away with this design.

I know I could buy a new mesh tramp but I want to avoid that expense. I'd rather find a way to make what I have work better.

I've thought about adding more holes (more grommets) but I'd have to riddle the tramp to make it worth it.

I would like feedback on cutting a hole in the existing tramp (maybe 12 inches x 18 inches) and sewing in heavy duty mesh.

How would the tramp (fabric) react to cutting a hole in it and sewing through it?

Other suggestions?

I doubt a few new grommets will hurt anything. Just get to cutting. If it works, you've got a better tramp. If you manage to screw it up, take your losses and buy a new tramp (its not that much). Either way, you get a better tramp.
