I have find a 2002 getaway used 12 times over 2 years for $4200 or a new 2002 wave for $3500. Which is a better deal? Would the sails and rigging be worn too bad after sailing 12 times? What should I be looking for when looking at a used boat? |

Both sound like good finds to me. Personally, I think the Getaway sounds like a better deal though, at only $700 more for the same year. The base price of the Getaway is over 2k more than a Wave when new. Does the Getaway have wings? If so, those will add probably another $1k to the value. Bieng sailed 12 times vs new for either model would show negligible wear. Maybe some slight scratches from beaching, etc. Sails, if handled and stored carefully, would show no perceptible wear and tear. My Wave has been sailed close to 100x, the sail shows only slighly more wrinkling than new. It may come down to what you are really looking for in a boat. Do you want a larger, faster, but much heavier craft to sail w/ friends / family, or a fun easily single-handled rig. Either way, you cannot go wrong. But inspect both carefully, like any other used boat. |

The getaway does have the wings and there appears to be just a few scratches in the front of the hull and decals on the side. Thanks for the help and I plan on sailing mostly with my wife and friends. I will probally buy the getaway. |

We bought the boat tonite and will pick it up next Saturday. He is going to help us set it up once so that I can see how to do it. I am excited and I will have alot of cleaning and getting it ready for warm weather. |
