Post subject:  Jib and backrest

I am looking at 2 used Waves. One has a jib and backrests, the other does not. The one that does not is a 2007. Is there an advantage to buying a newer Wave opposed to a Wave that is 9 years old with the optional equipment? Are the jib/backrests worthwhile?

Thanks for the advice.

It all depends on the condition of the boats. A seldom used used, stored inside, 9 year old boat could be a better deal than a 2 year old rental boat.

I don't think the jib adds a whole lot of value. Backrests are a very personal thing. Some people love them (as I do) others find them worthless as they inhibit ability to hike. Very easy to remove them though.

An earlier boat is going to have the original style tillers/rudder castings vs the newer EZ Lock style which are simpler and maintenance free.

I think in this case it is more important to evaluate condition and asking price compared to what you are willing to spend. Include cost of replacement of sails or tramp as a consideration.

Good luck.
