Post subject:  Wave cleaning
I purchased a used Wave model year 2002. What cleaners are safe to use on this type of hull? I have a Hobie 18 that I have wet sanded and buffed to bring back a gloss finish but I don't think that's the way to go with the Wave. There are a few black streaks on the outside hulls from the boat rubbing on the trailer rollers that I would like to remove. Also, the hull itself appears dull. Is this natural for this hull material? Any advice would be appreciated.

You want to clean, but not scratch. The material is somewhat shiney when new, but certainly can oxidize and fade. Possibly someone has cleaned with an abrasive cleaner.

Can you buy this on your site somewhere? I just moved to a location where my Wave will be outside under a big dirty pine tree all the time. I know I'll need to clean it often now. Also wondering if anyne has rigged up a good cover to keep it (particularly the trampoline) clean?

My Wave sits on the shore under some tall, drippy, birdy trees also. You definitely want to protect your tramp!

I use a (roughly) 8' by 10' blue tarp from Harbor Freight Tools. You can usually find them on sale for about $5, and they last about half a year. A more expensive one might last longer, but usually by then it's gotten dirty enough from the trees, birds, etc... to be replaced anyway.

I use bungees (also bought in a bundle from Harbor Freight) to attach the front corners to the bow eyes, the back with a loop around each rudder, and for the sides I put a plastic hook (cut from the corner of a plastic coat hanger) in the channel of the front crossbar on each side, and bungee from the front corner, under the hook, to the eyelet behind the shroud. Then I have a dog-stake in the ground below the mast; and I run a bungee through that to the eyelet on each side of the mast

This covers the tramp completely and most of the hulls. It also covers the seat pads, so they stay clean and water doesn't sit on the access holes underneath. Only the bows and the ends of the sterns stick out. I have never had the cover come loose, even through some vicious storms.

My local dealer uses a power washer to clean their Waves and Getaways. I used one and it worked great with NO damage to boat, tramp, or other parts. Watch out for the decals because the power washer can strip them off.

I used a pressure washer and Magic Erasers to clean the hull.
Worked great. Just watch the decals and seat pads when pressure washing.
