I had another great, gusty day at Long Beach (winds in the 20 mph range, again) and after three hours, I was pleasantly sore and exhausted. I sailed back through the inlet and into the inner harbor where I beach and break down my WAVE. Out in the middle of the harbor was a capsized SABOT, a father and son treading water and trying to right her. The wind was still blowing hard, and there was no way they could "swim" this boat ashore against the wind. I sailed up and asked if they needed help. Father said, "We could use a tow". I noticed that he was not wearing a PFD, at least the kid was. "You got it !" I circled around so that I could come in slowly across their bow, when one of those DUFFY Electric boats cut me off. "We got a rope", one of the DUFFYs said. I was annoyed, but figured "Oh well, at least they're handled". I beached my boat across the harbor, and lowered my sail. I was just about to drop my mast when I saw the DUFFY speeding away, leaving the capsized boat and father and son (around 9 years old) behind to fend for themselves. Obviously, their boat was not up to the task, so "We're out of here, but Hey! Have a nice day!" I was flabbergasted. I quickly raised my sail again, launched and blasted out to them. Dad held out a rope as I sailed past. I leaned way out, grabbed the rope, snaked it around the tiller crossbar, and off we went. I managed to get the two and their "submarine" back to shore. The boy said as he was being hauled through the water "This is kind of fun". I was so impressed with my WAVE, that it could haul a submerged boat with two people hanging on. Impressive torque. Well, the two were happy and appreciative, offered repreatedly to help me break down and car top my WAVE with me, but I enjoy doing it myself because I really like the workout. BUT I am still angry at that DUFFY, abandoning those poor guys out in the middle of the harbor. I have grown to hate these DUFFY boats because of the boneheads piloting them. At least I know two people, now, that think very fondly of HOBIE's. |

Nice story. Better than the one with the sad ending. |

Nice story, Corey. I have a question about your boat that I would like to ask, please. No email on profile. You have obviously spent a lot of good hours on your boat is the reason. |
