Hey everyone! I've been lurking for some time now. I'm finally deciding to jump in, as my purchase of a Wave is getting close to being reality. A little about myself: I haven't sailed much, but am really eager to learn. I have a family with 2 small kids that I want to introduce to a multitude of water sports. So, I see the Wave is a great family boat and a great boat to learn on. I have found a Wave for a very reasonable price ($500). The catch is that it doesn't have a sail or rudders. I have been looking around and cannot find a price on either piece of equipment. So, I have a few questions. First, what is the price on a new sail and rudder? Second, would that be a good price without the sail and rudders? Thanks again for the help. I have already learned so much from browsing and only hope I can contribute more in the future. Danny |

Danny, I am assuming you found the Wave in Houston? If so, it would be a good idea to check it out in person since the photos aren't too great (and if you do that post them up here so we can all take a look). Not sure of the pricing but Mariner Sails (http://www.mariner-sails.com/) has a great website that should include pricing on everything. If the website doesn't have the info you are looking for either give them or KO Sailing (in LaPorte) a call and someone should be able to help you out. I'm down on the SE side of Houston so if you need anything give me a shout. |

OK, a quick search of the part number and prices: 38991000 Sail-White $836 38991075 Sail-Spirit $964 39312000 EZlock Rudder Assembly $377, you'll need 2 39524001 Cross Bar $138 I would double check the part numbers and prices with your local Hobie dealer. Also, figure on replacing all the standing rigging, and lines. Add everything up and see if its still a good price. Without knowing what shape they hulls are in its hard for me to tell. I'd also get the serial number off the hulls, make sure they match and its the rightful owner of the boat. Charlie |

check the year of the boat out before you order the exloc rudders. It may be waaaaay cheaper if the boat is older. |

Thanks for the help. I think it's the one in Houston. With a trailer, I assume it's a decent deal. Just adding up the sail and rudder parts, it would tack on another $1500, putting me at about 2k. Does that sound reasonable? I really want a wave, but just need to find a good deal...you know, the family thing. Until it becomes reality, I'll just be browsing over here and watching everyone else fly hulls! Thanks. |

You can find the whole Hobie catalog on their main page and download it. Really, first thing you need to do is locate the Hobie Dealer that you are going to work with. Sometimes not so easy. Looks like you are going to be doing some rehab... What the hang happened to the rudders? |

If you are in Texas, danny, I was feeling your pain just a while ago. I searched and searched for a Wave for a while and at one point even found three across the state. I finally found mine in SW Houston but since then they have all dried up. I know there is a decent looking one up in Arkansas but that's about it for now as far as Texas-area. If you don't want to spend the money to fix it up then keep looking - something will pop up eventually. Try sailingtexas as well, if you haven't already. They have great classifieds. |
