| due to back problems, I'm thinking I have to sell my 16 and go with a smaller boat... moving the 16 back and forth on the beach - even with cat trax and 1-2 friends helping - is pretty demanding on my back now this past weekend, I saw someone move his Wave back and forth on the beach with his cat trax... so, I thought maybe this would be a better lighter boat for myself. how is the Wave in surf? (1-3' surf) also, how is the Rotomolded Polyethylene in the sun and salt air? (I keep my Hobie 16 on the beach year round) any ideas? suggestions? would be greatly appreciated... I just don't want to stop sailing because my body is not so good anymore. THANK YOU | |

| This is exactly the use a Wave was designed for! That's why it's the number one choice for seaside resorts around the world. The hulls are a bit "fatter" than the 16's, so it doesn't cut through the water quite as well; and the sail area is much less, so it's not as fast as a 16. But it is much more controllable in strong winds, and much lower maintenance overall. That's what makes it ideal for tourist resorts and rentals. | |

| I live in Daytona Beach and My wife and I put out onto the ocean nearly every weekend. The cat will bounce around a bit on chop if you are heading into the wind, but I haven't had an equipment failure yet. I've only capsized once in the surf and that was due to my own stupidity. A lesson hard come by, but thoroughly learned. I stay away from any surf higher than 2 / 3 foot waves as reported by the surf report. | |

| Well, I certainly haven't been out in 10' troughs but I've been experimenting with the new Wave this summer and it is certainly not a rocket like a 16 but as far as ocean waves, surf and big wind, it outperforms this pilot every time. I'm the weak link, not the boat and I used to do a lot of crazy dinghy sailing when I was young. Of course we didn't know what we were doing at that time either but we sure had fun. Some people may not like how wet a ride it is in those conditions but that is part of the fun while the water is warm. | |

| I take mine out in surf almost every day in summer. Been leaping over waves now for 4 years with no signs of the boat breaking....go for it | |
