Post subject:  Outdoor winter storage of Wave
I'd like to store our Wave outdoors this winter. We live in Minnesota, where the winters are cold. What can stay outdoors? What should we store indoors? How should we protect the boat?

Make sure the hulls are dry as ice can cause damage, also make sure the mast is either dry and stored flat, or taken apart with the open end (joint) pointing down to allow for drainage. There have been previous post here about mast stored steped with ice damage from water getting inside either by seepage or condensation and then freezing.

I plan on storing my Wave on its trailer. I hope that I do not have to take it apart this year--this Spring we installed back rests (which, incidentally I LOVE), but that entailed taking the whole boat apart. My question is, can I leave the tramp and the back rests on if I take the foam covers off? The boat will be well covered with a tarp and kept dry, but will our 10F, or maybe zero F ( :shock: ) winter harm the tramp?

If you create a tent to keep the weight of the snow from sitting on it, and make sure there's no water in the hulls, I don't think the cold will hurt anything.

I left my boat at the lakeshore with the tramp on last winter and it was fine. I took the mast, rudders and sail home, then put my kayak across the crossbars (length-wise) and tarped the whole thing, leaving the ends open, like a pup tent. The kayak's keel supported the weight of the snow and protected the tramp.
