Post subject: | Replacing the Mast Base |
The Mast Base has fractured as a result of a dismasting and needs to be replaced ![]() I would like to hear from anybody who has changed their Mast Base I have looked at two parts guides and there seems to be two different part numbers for the Mast Base on a Wave - 38641001 on one guide and 13600010 on another - which is correct? All contributions gratefully received |

Older vs newer. If your boat has the black ball on the crossbar and the "cup" as the mast base... you need the 38641001 MAST BASE CSTG WAVE (FOR BALL STEP) (S/N 1437+) You just need the right tools. A good sharp drill bit 3/16 to 15/64" Drill off the rivet head and something to punch the rest of the rivet into the mast. Mount the new base and drill the casting with 15/64" bit (or wallo out with a 3/16" bit to fit the rivet caps. Slide in the rivets and then a rivet gun that can pull stainless rivets. |

Thank you Matt for your informative post. I am holidaying in Spain, and couldn't get the correct casting in Europe but thanks to Amazon got one Fedexed from Florida! A local sailmaker (with the help of your post) changed it over very quickly. They don't use inches here but - 3/16" is close to 5mm and 15/64" is 6mm. Now tried and tested - all is OK. ![]() |

Is the mast base sealed? Will that make it difficult to remove it? If replacing the mast base, should it be re-sealed? If so, what kind of sealant? Thanks, Jim |

No sealant was used - the mast base is a snug fit and is secured by the rivets. |
