Post subject:  Water in Comptip

Hi, I have water in my Comptip. I have searched the posts and didn't find one that was specific to removing water from a Comptip. Did I miss it? Is there a Hobie recommended method?

If not, would you recommend:

1. Drill a small hole in the fiberglass, drain and seal?

2. Drill a hole in the bottom plug, drain and seal?

3. Drill out a mast head rivet, maybe it will drain, and re-rivet

Note: Just purchased the boat. Not sure how the water got in, but have found several VERY tiny spots where water drops come out of the Comptip. More than the water, I am concerned the Comptip may break. Any thoughts on its reliability?

Thanks, in advance
Ron

Shove a coat hanger wire through the foam plug in the bottom of the comp-tip and let the water drain. I used roofing foam to re-seal the hole ( I actually removed the entire plug for another reason). Find the leak and plug that too. A good method to finding the leaks is to put the exhaust of a vacuum cleaner to the hole you created and then use soapy water on the suspect areas and look for bubbles.
I had water in the mast bob and I have no clue how it got in, so I drilled a hole to drain it and then used a screw to plug the hole....
