Can someone please give me advice regarding if there is periodic maintenance I need to do to the main sheet line and blocks for a Wave? I only have the main sail - no jib. I bought my boat 4 years ago and sailed it each summer without any binding of the main sheet line. It would release smoothly all the time. However this summer on my first time out, the sheet line seems to have too much friction so when I release the line (uncleated) the sail doesn't go out. If I grab the line and manually pull, I can get it to release but it's not smooth and easy. The rope was twisted some and after I've untwisted everything it's better but still seems to have too much friction. BTW, the pulleys all roll smoothly so the issue seems to be the friction of the line as it rubs past itself or through the pulleys. Any advice? Thanks - Brian

I have no idea what the expected lifespan of the mainsheet is and I'm sure it varies by amount of use, UV exposure, salt water exposure, etc. But for me, if the blocks are good and the mainsheet is run (rove?) through them correctly, then I'd just replace the mainsheet. My boats only in its second year, so I can't help with direct experience.

Does the mainsheet block have a ratcheting mechanism on it? Some blocks have a switch that can be flipped to ratchet one way on the other (to INCREASE friction to make it easier to hold without cleating) or turn it off completely. Have you ever taken the mainsheet out of the blocks? If so, are you positive that you ran it correctly when you re-rigged? If two lines are rubbing that will create a lot of friction.
