Post subject:  Rip in Hobie Wave Trampoline

This weekend when packing up my Hobie Wave I noticed there is a tear in the trampoline. It wasn't there before I took it out this weekend so I'm guessing it happened when I was stepping the mast. It's a 2008. I thought the tramp would hold up to more than my weight and the sail since it's a Hobie. What do people recommend. Get a new replacement? Sew a patch around it? Leave it alone, but will it grow bigger? Thanks for any advice and assistance.

The trampoline material looks pretty cooked after 8-9 years, so weakened from exposure. The stress concentrated at the grommet could have been where you stepped. You can get this repaired at a sail loft or an upholstery shop. They would remove the grommet and add a patch sewn over the area to disperse the loads and replace the grommet.

Thanks for the reply, Matt. Since you mentioned that it looks cooked and weakened from exposure I'm thinking this will happen again in another area. Would you recommend at this point just getting a new trampoline? At what point does one replace the whole tramp. Thanks again.

Certainly would be a bad day to fall though when sailing!

I would replace it now. You can see the material parting at the next grommet to the left. Keep it covered and don't use harsh cleaning solutions.
