Post subject: | Rivets with Rivet Caps....How to? |
I am installing a secondary mast tang for a spinnaker on a Wave. I have the proper tang and the specified rivets/rivet caps ( part # 8010181, 8011291). The rivets are 3/16 but the caps are a bit larger. Should I use a 13/64 drill bit for the rivets/caps to accommodate the slightly larger caps? Additionally, should I put some silicone in the drilled holes prior to setting the rivets? Thanks for any advice! |

Drill to the size of the rivet cap. When I installed mine I used 3M 5200 to seal the rivets/caps. I have a harbor freight pneumatic rivet gun and it pulls the monel rivets very nicely. Measure twice and drill once. |

Thanks for the info....and the wisdom of measuring twice and drilling once! |

I was very nervous putting the extra holes in my mast. Let us know how the spinnaker works out. Also take a look for my thread on the home made spinnaker snuffer. |
