Post subject:  Reinforcing the bow spreader bar?

Has anyone thought of an efficient (low weight) method to reinforce the Wave bow spreader bar so it can be used to pull the cat up on the beach, etc.? The bar appears to be too flimsy to use it as a "pull" bar and yet it does get in the way of using the front crossbar as a pull point. Thanks for any advice. :D

Geoff covers that in this youtube video, at about the 3:08 mark...

Still have to beef up mine as well.

I still use the front crossbar when I winch the Wave up a ramp onto the trailer. The spreader doesn't really stop you from doing that. I run the winch strap under the spreader because the boat comes onto the trailer with a slight tail down attitude. Even if the bar was reinforced, I'd be nervous about the pressure on the mounting tangs.

I might try inserting a smaller bay into the hobie spreader, then filling the void with epoxy. Should make a nice strong structure.
