Post subject: | How to fix a split mast? |
Hello. New Hobie Wave owner and first time poster. I have a split in my mast. Photo here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/hf27oSDSPQoPgGtt1 - Can i fix this? How? - Should I fix it? The previous owner said it's been like this for years. Any thoughts /advice are greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

That is not good. The mast should be replaced. Was caused by water freezing inside the extrusion. The is a dangerous crack that could cut or pinch upon failure let alone strand you on the water. |

Hi Matt. Thanks for the quick response. I was thinking of trying to fix it via 'brazing'. Bad idea? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SBfP4_i1Go Also, if not fixable: - Who do i contact in Canada (ideally in the Vancouver area) to get a buy mast? I see you are with Hobie US and i can't find a contact for Hobie Canada. - And do i just need a mast base? Or would i need to order the whole thing? Again, thanks very much for your assistance. Craig. |

Hi Craig, Unfortunately the mast is a highly stressed part of the boat. Flex and loads would not be held by a repair. The lower mast is available 38583141 MAST WAVE LOWER, NEWER TYPE (BALL TYPE STEP ON CROSSBAR / SOCKET IN MAST BASE) SER #1438 UP. OLDER REQ NEW STEP US$ 514.00 (12/2017) We have dealers in Canada. Try our "Dealer Finder"... choose Rotomolded Sailboats as the product type. https://www.hobie.com/dealers/ |
