| Post subject: | Trailering With Rudders On |
Does anyone tow their Wave with the rudders on? If so, how do you go about tying them down to keep them from flopping around? I live only a couple of miles from my usual launch site and I would like to leave the rudders on for this short distance. Tying them down seems awkward though in contrast to my H14 or H16. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. |

What year is your boat? The real question is: what type of rudder system do you have? The early boats, pre 2005, had the Hobie 17 type rudder head made of aluminum. After that they had the EZ Loc system with a plastic rudder head. |

EZ loc comes with a pin to insert through the rudder and the housing. Insert the pin in each to hold the rudders up. Even a single line to the tramp lace at the middle should do it with the pins in the rudders. You could cross diagonal lines to further limit rudder swing if you want. From the ends of the tiller crossbars to a tramp lace half way inboard on each side. |

How do you raise your mast if your rudders are already in place or do you plan to leave the cross bar off when trailering? |

Thanks Matt for the suggestions. I do have the pins. I’ve just never used them. Now I will. With regards to stepping or lowering the mast, I expect to simply disconnect the cross bar temporarily and leave it in place otherwise. This boat is extremely easy to rig. I love it. |

My Hobie 14, 16, and Wave were all towed to the Gulf (about 350 miles). I used two pieces of shock cord, locked the EZ lock rudders in the 'up' position and then stretched a piece of shock cord around each rear tramp post and over the rudder cross bar. Later on when I obtained a sail box for the Wave I removed the rudders, etc. and carried them in the 'box'. bill |
