Sooooooo I broke a rudder today! So pissed. Was ready to sail and was swapping a bushing and I wiggled too hard and the blade snapped at the pivot hole. My wave is older and has the old style set up (Like the 18?) It has black rudders made of some kind of composite. I'm guessing after 25 yrs they get more brittle. I see white nylon ones for sale that say they fit for $156 ea. Are they right? Can I put white ones on? Is there a difference? Please advise. (Matt?) |

The white nylon blades are the current available rudder for older boats. Yes, the same shape and a direct replacement for the black ones. |

What? Replacing the black ones with white ones? #HobieRuddersMatter Just kidding..... Ok I kid......I ordered them new. I hear nylon degrades over time and UV etc. Is it true that the nylon tends to degrade over that long (25+ years)? Ie it's wise to replace them on older boats to de-risk a failure at the pivot point? Thanks for your help Matt. |

You are funny! We started with ABS... hey were weak and damaged by UV. Then PCG and LEXAN... all have some issue over time. Nylon has been pretty good I think. |
