Post subject: | Water in mast |
At the end of last season, when breaking down the boat for storage, the mast had a lot of water in it. I took off the comp tip and poked a small hole in the foam stopper in the mast and the water drained. Any suggestions on how to seal the foam block to prevent water accumulation this season? Thank you |

Seem the masts can wick in moisture over time. Seal the leading edge with resin and then plug the foam hole with sealant. Silicone or similar. |

As a simple alternative, I drilled a very small hole in the base of the mast which permanently lets the water out. Please read this thread: https://www.hobie.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=64651 It works very well and doesn't let water in during a capsize because the mast float keeps the base of the mast way above the water level. |

The small drain hole is now standard on the Wave masts. |

Thank you, Lurker, for the repost describing that the foam plug runs up about 10" from the bottom !!! Years ago, I wanted to drill a hole near the bottom and posted a couple of times asking how far up the foam went. I never did get a reply, so I also drilled a hole in the top to take it off and drain it upside down (as others mentioned) but re-sealing it every year was building up silicone and I no longer wanted to do this. Much appreciated!! |
