Post subject: | Aussie Rig on a Wave jib halyard? |
Hi Just picked up a 2021 Wave. Been making some additions/improvements: 1) added jib sail 2) upgraded tang bell shackle to give more space for shrouds, forestay and jib pig tail 3) ran shock cord through downhaul cleat eye and attached to each end of the front cross beam to create a triangle to keep jib sheet from fouling at mast base 4) replaced main halyard S hook attachment with a keypin locking shackle 5) Aussie rig for jib halyard. I was told by an accomplished sailing instructor that I need to add more tension to the jib halyard. He suggested a stainless steel ring luggage tagged approx 18 inches above the jib halyard cleat on the halyard line to create a 2:1 downhaul on the jib halyard. I went ahead and just got a 40mm Harken block with becket and a 40mm Harken fiddle block and created an Aussie jib attached to the pig tail on the tang. Any thoughts on this rig? Will it actually create any improvements or create any problems? |

There is minimal pressure you can but on the jib halyard. Just pull tight enough to take wrinkles out. It is not designed to take the rig load... only a small line inside the luff. Certainly not 2:1. |
