Hi

Looking to see if anyone has attached the EP Carry electric motor to their Hobie. I have to launch my Hobie from a marina with a very narrow fairway out to open water. It takes about 10 tacks and 20 mins to go about 200 yards. Was thinking about attaching the EP Carry to the rear cross beam since it is so compact and light (14 lb motor and 6 lb battery) https://www.electricpaddle.com. Does anyone have that setup? Or any ideas on how to create a simple easily removable mount? What is the best way to clamp on to the rear cross beam without scratching it? Once I figure out how to clamp on to the crossbar I think it would be pretty easy to attach a block of wood or strong composite that the motor would attach to.

I chose more expensive torqueedo option for two reasons: 1. Torqueedo is better waterproofed. Wave could capsize. 2. Didn't like the idea of separate battery. It could be lost, should be fixed separately, will be in your way when tacking, etc.

A separate battery works fine, as long as the connection wiring is long enough to position it far enough forward to be out of the way. I too went with the Torqeedo, but purchased the Ultralight 1103 AC unit to minimize the hardware potentially interfering with the rudder, main sheet, traveler arrangement I have. A bit heavier (about 33 lbs including battery), but It works like a charm and has excellent range at partial throttle. The bracket stays fixed, but the propulsion unit just drops in and out. Can these battery operated motors get wet were the boat to flip?
