Post subject:  Wave Spinnaker

Hi there. I am new to sailing and planning on purchasing a new or used Hobie Wave. I was wondering if the Spinnaker for the Wave was worth the money( Basically how well it works.) any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

As a new sailor, you may not want to use a spinnaker right away. On the other hand, if you are interested in increased down wind performance, the Wave spinnaker kit works well and is a managable size for new sailors.

I was out today in light/medium wind, which would have been boring, but with the spinnaker on broad reaches it was fun!......well worth it today! and a blast when there's stronger wind!

How is the spinnaker stored on the boat. Is there a snuffer system or something similar.

Sorry, don't even know what a snuffer is!
There's a bag which I just secure under a foot-hold tape
and stuff the spinakker in it when its not flying.

A snuffer is a tube under the spin pole and and hoop at the tip that allows the tube to very easily be snuffed away.

So if it doesn't come with a snuffer can you make/buy one. I think that would make hoisting and retrieval easier then crumpling it up on the boat.

I am sure you can make or buy one.

I have been trying to get my boat rigged all summer with a spinnaker and before I found an entire kit for sale extremly cheap I had a few ideas.

Buy the wave spinnaker kit, that takes care of the sail and pole and alot fo the rigging. Then send the sail off to a sail maker or maybe ask Hobie to do it, but you need snuffer patchs added to it, they help it fold up correctly into the snuffer.

As for the Hoop at the end of the pole, you could go look at some carbon fiber ones or something like that, or go to a garage sale and find an old tennis racket, take out the strings and anything sharp and there is your hoop.

Now just sew some kind of long bag that is open at the hoop and runs backwards the length of the pole and under the tramp a little ways. That should take care of the snuffer system.
