No sh#t? 100k?? That a ton! Are they just made here or do the other Hobie factorys spit them out too? You think you'd see more of them on the secondary market then too.......and parts etc....... Okay, next question: Whats up with Wave Racing? Why only in Florida and why not everywhere? Why are our kids not racing these boats? And is there any sailing schools out there teaching multihull and if so, do they teach the Wave? I am trying to add Wave/multihull to our predominatly Scow/Xboat sailing school at the Clear Lake Yacht Club so any ammo I can take to the board meeting will be mucho helpful. Thanks for the info Brad |

yea on 2nd thought 100K might be a little high...I just know i've never been down to the islands and not seen at least 10 on each little island. I do not know of any school using waves, they are the perfect boat for kids. I use to leave one at our yacht club for a week in the summer, the kids fight over it. |

Sandpoint Sailing Center in Seattle has classes available on Waves, as does (I think) Kelowna in BC. |

Thanks for the tip, tjp. I called my sister in law and she might sign my nephew up out there for some Opti training. |

The Wilmette park district just North of Chicago on Lake Mich offers lessons on Waves and also has Getaways, Waves and Bravos to rent at their Gilson Sailing beach. They rent the Waves out at $45/hour or $60 for 2. |

Thanks ILhobie for the info. I just wanted you to know you never know who might read these boards. I live in Rockford, Il and didn't know this was available. I have 2 Hobie Mirage kayaks and am getting interested in sailing. I plan to get a sail for my kayaks soon but also want to experience a real sail boat with instructions. I also have nephews that I would like to expose to sailing. Thanks again for your post. Bruce |

Dunno about formal training, but on most Caribbean resorts, the 'rental' of choice is the Wave. Most resorts offer some instruction, more than likely to protect their equipment! Some of these resorts import the H15 from France, a great training boat with high volume hulls, boomless rig, self-furling jib. Neeeerly the same size as a H16. Sails great. I've also seen lots of Wave's at the Florida rental operations, Lauderdale, Delray etc. Be great if more Sailing Clubs offered instruction starting with the Wave, let's get more kids into multi-hulling! After all, they are the sailors of tomorrow. Now with the temperature at 32C, and the winds at 30 kph, gusting 50, how can I leave the office to join my buddies on the Ottawa River? (29 knot gust logged at 13.30 this afternoon, wow!) |
