Hi All I am considering purchasing a used Wave, 1996 model. What should I look for in a used wave? Problem areas I should be aware of? Its a Club Model. Does anything happen negatively to the hulls over time? Thanks for any help, Pete |

The hulls are rock solid. Take a look where the cross bars enter the hulls, I've seen some small stress cracks here, mostly from the rental guys who use truck to pull the boats around. The window in the sail might be toast by now and it will need new rigging unless its been replaced in the last few years. The rudders will be the old style, nothing wrong with that just remember that when you need parts for it, rudder cams are the same as a H17/18 Hobie part number 5204 |

Depending on how it was used, most issues will be obvious, but may be cosmetic. Check for leaks, frayed tramp, ragged sail, fuzzy mainsheet, smooth blocks, loose screws. Brad's advice on replacing the rigging is good, if it's been used at all. You will likely have access ports on the back decks and under the seat pads, which can leak and may need re-sealed, regardless of how it was used. Bill |

thanks Bill, yes the tramp at this age if left in sun can start to show sign of major problems. Under the front seat pad will be a hidden inspection port, this is our #1 cause of wave leaks, simply re seal it, glue the pad back down and as good as new. |
