I'm trying to determine what size sea anchor/drift sock to get for my freshwater fishing fun some of this stuff is totally new to me all I really know electric positioning motors and such as that some of this drifting and trolling stuff is truly forign to me I'm fishing out of a Outback and pretty much only freshwater.

I`m using the Crack of Dawn driftsock sold at Hook1
It has buoancy on one side and a counterweight on the other so it auto-deploys quikly
it rolls up and stows behind the seat. I don`t use any lines, just clips to a seat carabiner or for longer drifts to the anchor pulley drifting downwind bow first.
added a float just in case I have to dump it, no lines, easier when a big one decides to circle the stern

I disagree with the "smallest you can find" theory. If you're fishing BBL you want something BIG and that will really grip you and slow you down. The small chutes are fine for small wind but up there I've been in some real howlers and that's just what the trout wanted...

Consider something with a 3' - 6' diameter if you really want to slow down. If you goal is to just turn yourself at a certain angle to the wind you can go with something smaller. Also, the Hobie anchor trolley kit is very useful for this! Good luck.

The drift chute Hobie offers works great for me. I use one with an anchor trolley and have complete control over my

The hobie one is perfect

I use a FLEX dog leash for my Hobie drift chute, it goes out about 12' and then I can bring it in easy

I also attach it to a anchor trolley to get it in front of me

with all that said, I rarely use it.

I do agree with Drew also about bigger ones in bigger seas, but it should also be stressed that in rough seas you should be prepared to cut it away if you need to
