Post subject:  Old style Outback advice

Recently this October I purchased an outback SUV and I have two main questions. First I have to say, it is a great boat, and I had lots of fun striper fishing in October and early November. It is a leftover 06 boat with the older hull design. My first question is if anyone knows of a hard sided cooler that fits well in the recess behind the seat. I have a very small cooler that I use, but it would barely fit a flounder in it. I like the hard sided coolers because I can just flip the lid open rather than trying to work a zipper. I had heard about the Marine 25 cooler on the message boards, I bought one, and it I guess fits well on the newer outbacks, but doesn’t quite work with the old hull shape. Does anyone know of a hard sided cooler in similar size to the 25 but that actually drops in to the recess?

Another question I have is, does anyone have experience in surf landing the old hull design. The boat is basically shaped with high shoulders and a deep keel in the middle. Basically after I hit the beach, I almost inevitably get dumped to one side or the other because the boat will not sit flat on dry ground. Anybody deal with this already?

Hey Yakfreak,
Here is one of my posts from 4 years ago detailing all the cooler options that will either fit in, or ride on top of, the tankwells of the earlier OBs. Don't forget that you can always use a "spacer" plastic box or flat tackle box to put in the tankwell, and this opens up a number of additional coolers that can then ride nicely on top of the "spacer" box. One that I like for this is the Coleman 28 quart Ice Basket Chest Cooler. But you can also use the Igloo 25 as well, or any other that will fit between the gunwales.
