Post subject:  2008 Oasis for fishing

Trying to get the most use out of my oasis for fishing and rec. Anyone rig the oasis for fishing? Any posted pics would be helpful. Whats best ballast? Most fishing will be done solo.

I have an outfitter and use 2 20ltr shower bags filled with water right up the bow.
I weigh around 80kg and the bags between 35 to 40kg. Keeps the yak nice and level on the water.

regards
Ken

Water is great as ballast, especially since you have no weight to lug beyond the water's edge.

If you don't mind carrying weight though (or need to maximize space in the front cockpit) you can fill your drivewell plug with lead shot -- I got this idea from Stringy who also has an Oasis. I use a second lead filled cylinder (melted wheel weights) stuffed in the bow through the front hatch. Together they weigh 55 lb. Works great for me! When placed this way, the weight is kept very low and adds an excellent righting moment when sailing.

Bags filled w/water seem to work out good, especially for transporting. Been many times i've started out w/wife, dropped her off at beach, then did some fishing. Also can adjust ballast depending on how much gear I'm carrying.

Yeap, I've rigged up a few Oasis yaks in my time. This page shows how I've rigged up an Oasis with rod holders:
