Post subject:  Questions about new Hobie Trax cart
I have a 2006 Outback (it still has the recess behind the seat for the small cooler). Will the new cart fit the scupper holes? I saw something somewhere that made me think it only fit newer hulls.

Also, will the cart fit in the front hatch with the wheels off?

The new carts simply are wider and have longer posts, so will fit all older boats NO problem. We have made the posts longer for the Pro Angler and the new cart keeper pin system to work. I have not tried fitting in an older Outback hatch.

I have the cart and an 09 Outback, I am not able to fit the cart into the hatch. I've also seen a lot of pics of people with the cart behind the seat, it still fits but because it's so wide it sits up on the rails. I just put one wheel under the rear cargo straps.

Hobie thought of a lot of things with the new Outback but they didn't identify how the single paddler was supposed to get the cart back under their kayak when they are done for the day.

Scupper carts always have this issue, so not related to a boats design. You simply have to roll the boat onto its side to insert the cart if on land.

Easiest way is to stand alongside the kayak in knee deep water and insert the cart by submerging it. Look through the scupper from the top for the cart post. Once one is in the other usually follows. You will get a wet arm though!
If that isn't possible then roll the kayak on its side after first placing the cart within easy reach. I used to do this on the boat ramp but it does scratch the side of the hull.

Thanks for all the info. I guess I'll have to find an old version of the Hobie Trax cart so I can keep the cart in the hatch when I'm on the water.
