Post subject:  Planning a Kayak Fishing Trip down the Colorado in September

I posted this in the AI forum as well as a few other places. Trying to get feed back and ideas of what all might be needed for a trip like this.

Hello all. I live in Vegas and I have been on Lake Mead lots of times. I have also been up and down the river from Hoover Dam to Willow Beach area. At the end of summer I want to plan a trip from Hoover Dam to Parker Dam. My goal is to do the whole river from Hoover to Yuma AZ. I just can't take that much time off right now. So I think I will do the first leg from Hoover to Parker Dam. I can drop in right at Hoover Dam (for a small Park Service Fee). From there it is 11 miles to Willow Beach, 31 miles to Cottonwood Cove and Marina, than 32 miles to Davis Dam and Laughlin NV. Total first leg is 63 miles. At Laughlin there is a Kayak Outfitter that can pick us up and take us around the dam to the river side in front of the Casinos. From Davis it is 81 miles to Parker Dam for a grand total of 144 miles.

There are lots of options here. This trip can be done in a few days or it can be done over a week. I am think about taking my time and camping one night on the beach in between Hoover and Davis. Than maybe spend the night in a Casino in Laughlin before heading out again to Parker. From Davis to Parker spend a night or two on the beach. There are lots of Marinas along the way where you can resupply. That way you don't have to cary too much with you. Also the wives can stay at the Casino during the trip if that is needed. I would like to start this first leg around September or first of October. The weather is good that time of year not too hot or cold and the thunderstorms have already passed. There will still be long daylight hours.

There is a lot of history along the Colorado and there will be lots to see. Fishing our way down would be great as well. Lots of places to explore and lots of nature to see and photograph. I was planning on doing this trip solo but the wife suggested against it for safety reasons. There are no other AI's in Vegas that I know of. I could do it with normal Kayakers but I think it would be fun with fellow Hobie AI sailors and Kayakers. Let me know if any one is interested and we can start planning. It will be an adventure for sure.

Than in the spring ( April/May) I will do from Parker to Yuma.
