Hi , i just purchased a lowrance m68c gps sonar in color....i also purchased a hobie fishfinder installation kit. Heres a few questions for you all. 1) where do i install the transducer?...should i goop it in front of the sail mount? 2) the transducer, which direction should it be pointing?...i am going to use the transom transducer that came in the box. 3) this being my first time installing an transducer with goop, could i simply just duct tape it to the bottom of the hull? any more tips and ideas are welcomed. borg |

look for the post "ram mount for sail mast opening" before you install the transducer. If you decide to install it with the goop as instructed...be certain to work the transducer around in the goop to push all the airbubbles out from under it. I think in my install, I didn't get them out and the ff doesn't show fish like I had hoped. As I said, look for that post above and look at all the pic's that are there, then decide how you are going to install the TD. |

Same kayak, same ff.. I first mounted trans in back of mast tube,, poor return. Maybe to thick of hull section there as it is heavy around the drive and mast area. Moved it just behind the seat supports, works great now.. If it wasn't a colour machine you would'nt notice the defference, just add more gain to make up for the loss, (20 %).. The colour return looks like it does in silty water when mounted in front..thicker sections( goes to black and white wash out ) Royg |

Coosbay...did you install the td behind the mast with the goop? If so how did you remove it to move it back aft? I think maybe mine could use some moving...just don't know if it can be done now that I gooped it in. |

Here is a link to a video that runs you through the entire fish finder installation process: http://www.hobiecat.com/kayaking/access ... video.html This shows mounting the monitor on the rail, but you can mount it through the sail mount using the accessory tube wedge mount if you wish. |

Be carefull not to pull on the wireing.. If you did a good job and theres no edge to get hold of pull/pry the trans up,, give it time to strecth and release.. Check when you get it off to see if any bubbles were under the trans..Royg |

I have mounted many behind the sail mast without any problems. At our shop we do not goop the transducers in. We cut the foam block smaller than the transducer on the top and wider on the bottom, goop it to the hull. When using pour a little water into the foam block insert the transducer. |

I have never had a problem using GeorgeD's method of mounting and recommend it to anyone who asks. I don't live in as warm a climate as many and get away with using vasaline instead of the water and it lasts for more than a seoson that way. I also mount directly behing the mast in the Revo and PA without any problems. |

Ok on the install info, but lets talk about the images. I don't really see any good indication of fish..because of where I have fished (large reservoir) I mostly am looking for water depth, which helps me find where the fish probably are. However; it would be good to "know" there are fish there. How about some of you guys who use ff to give me some tutoring on what I am seeing on the screen. I am using the Lorance x50ds. I see lots of images, but no complete fish images. ![]() |

George, Sorry I missed this post.....It was good seeing you too. We had a heck of a turnout with more people than ever traveling a ways to get here. If my goal wasn't fishing (I don't get to the salt often enough) I think I could have spent the entire time visiting with people I only see once or twice a year. See you next year...hopefully Jamaica Bay too. |

How much gain you have on makes a difference , to much gain will show moss, leaves, .. Tune for a good solid bottom return. Royg |
