Went on a very last minute trip - as in 10 min and out the door lol, to try can catch our last snapper for the season. We caught them plus lots of smaller grouper gag & red. No keepers this time. Surf was a little rough getting out and then it was calm as could be, after a few hours the wind shifted and picked back up. Luckily the wind actually pushed the surf down and it was easy as pie getting back in. Great quick trip!

Nice pictures. That is great to be able to catch that kind of fish so close to shore. What kind of rig/bait are you using?

just your typical sow rig for snapper (5 ft leader w/30-40 lb mono leader and a 3-6 oz egg weight depending on current) and cigar minnows for bait

Post subject:  Re: Last day of snapper season/Kayaks Gulf

Nice fish.

Test drove a Hobie Outback and Revo last week, like Mirage hands free fishing. Also considering an Ocean Kayak Torque (electric motor). Good time to buy end of 2010 models price reductions yet get 2 year warranty.

Questions: About how far off shore do you go? Considering adding an Eagle 350 S/Map to whatever I buy? Your thoughts on preferred Kayak for Gulf and fishing? From pics looks like you chose an Outback.

We have a Quest love it. Live in Texas near Dallas come each Sept to Ft Walton Beach for month. Oil spill not keeping us away. Am 73 and retired Navy love to fish fresh and Gulf. Sold my Tracker boat today to focus on and finance kayaking. We did a guide trip with Capt James Pic out of PCB last year enjoyed it.

I am a newbie to the board, appreciate your experience and others, Thank you, Richard and Darlene
