Due to popular demand I have created a fully updated clip to demonstrate how I've rigged my AI for open water kayak fishing. It's been a year or so since I released the original clip that inspired this (The Compleat Fishing Kayak) and in that time I've learned a few new tricks and have refined the rigging of the kayak dramatically - especially for use in trimaran mode, which is how I'm showing it off here. |

Love the setup.... I'm not sure I would kayak fish where the sharks are big enough to NEED a shark repellant device though....thats a little worrisome. Not that I fear sharks...but geesh....white sharks are another critter all together. |

Tell me about it Synovis. Whites are another critter altogether. The above video clip demonstrates how easily I was humbled by one. It also demonstrates why I use the Shark Shield. ![]() |

Not so much a case of having big brassies, more just a case of a) having mentally prepared myself for it prior (thats why I approached it) and b) not having to be caught by surprise by it - I saw it before it saw me. I knew what I was getting myself into... kinda... Sharks are not as common here as that clip might elucidate, or media might suggest. This incident occurred in shark bay Nth NSW, a known hot spot. It's not the only one I've seen there and no doubt there will be more. But before living here, I'd done almost 10km on the water on the east coast without a shark shield, without ever having had an incident. They are certainly not mandatory for yak fishing aussie open waters, but they are handy to have, for peace of mind if not anything else. I've also used them to good effect stopping smaller sharks from stealing fish I;ve wound in. The video below includes an experiment where I get a hooked shark up close to the yak and then switch the shield on to see what happens. Enjoy ![]() |

I love those videos..... I've shot some video and pics and stuff and I know how much of a pain it is... not just getting the shots, but the work of editing afterwards is a pain too. Thanks for the effort in getting all those up...!! |

Well Mr Yakass the one thing that kept going through my mind when, I saw that shark stalking you was "But, I don't want to be a POT PIE!" ![]() |
