Revo, Outback, Outfitter, Adventure, AI and probably the TI are all quite capable boats for offshore work. I use a Revo and and Adventure....but I know many others that use AI, Outback and even the Outfitter. Benefit to the Outfitter is that he is the guy with the beer cooler....nobody ever leaves him behind. |

Some questions you need to ask yourself is; How good a paddle kayak does it need to be and how stable? Will it be used for off shore only? Are you attracted to the AI, (possible want for the future)? The Outback, while it will fish offshore quite comfortably, I do not consider it a choice as it is a real sh!t to paddle any distance, if the Mirage breaks and you are offshore 8km (5 mile) with a head wind and a (censored) of a swell, You are going to do it bl##dy hard. My choice would be either a Revo or Adventure. The only and I do mean only, thing I do not like about the Revo, is it has no keel, and therefore is not as an efficient as and Adventure to paddle. The Revo you sit higher and a little dryer in the seat well, which is nice. Its shorter and a little easier to manage off the water and on the water. Personally I did not find much difference between the Revo and Adventure in stability, almost everyone else say the Revo is also more stable. Finally, the front hatch is a little easier to get to and the rest is pretty much the same. IMHO the Adventure being so long and having a keel to help keep a more positive direction, makes it a fraction faster, and the keel is a great asset when you pull the paddle out for a go (big difference over the Revo). The Adventure is a wetter ride and you will find yourself sitting in water for 90% of the time. The best part of the Adventure is; it upgrades to an AI very easily. Then you have something worth taking off shore ![]() |

Thanks ELM, has given me a bit to consider as i do like the look of the AI My current yak is 71cm wide, which i find quite stable. I intend to use it only for offshore shore fishing. I don't need to paddle to far to find good spots but really like the idea of hands free fishing. I like the look of a revo but i hear what you say about the adventure.......AI |

Hi Kiwiyaka where are you based? I recently bought an Outback off Boatbits in Takapuna, was considering the Revo but the Outback has far greater strorage and rigging capabilities. I am based in the Waikato and regularly fish out of Manu Bay at Raglan and down at Taupo. Love the Outback. Happy to talk to you about the Hobies, after 7 years of paddling I am a total convert to the mirage drive. |

Good luck Kiwiyaka, there is a guy who posts on the Adventure Island forum site called Stobbo, (I think), he does a fair bit of fishing around Rangitoto and lives on the North Shore. he's really helpful. Have you checked out the Hobie NZ Facebook site? Must admit I haven't, but it would be good to maybe have a Hobie fishing day somewhere. I guess I'll just have to join Facebook ![]() |

Quote: Nothing Hobie makes will handle/land 10kg+ fish! Hehe, I laughed out loud when I read this. Assumption is the mother of all screw ups. Just so you know, Paul O'leary landed an 80kg marlin from a revo. Myself and many other people I know have easily handled fish larger than 10kg. Oh... and the Outfitter is a horrible off shore kayak. I'd much rather be in an Oasis, especially the new Oasis... if I could stand to fish from a tandem. |

I think the Dr. is just trying to get a rise out of somebody with that statement because it has no merit. |

I guess some viewers never bothered to read my reply on Jan 30. "Sorry...you are correct...I had the conversion wrong on kg to pounds!" Simple conversion error. |
