Post subject:  Need help modifying built in rod holders

Hello all....I'm a proud new owner of "preowned" Quest, which I plan to use for flyfishing. My question is what adaptors/parts can I buy or use so I can mount flyrods the the rear built in rod holders? These appear designed just for spinning rods.

My model is an '06 if that matters. I have already mounted a Scotty on front center console but would like to convert one on the back. Thanks..

Very easy to do. Get some thin wall PVC pipe, I think I used 1 inch ID thin wall. Trim a section long enough to fit down into the hull rod holder, and still have about 8 inches sticking out.

Cut a slot along the pipe about 5 or 6 inches in length. About 3/4 inch wide should be plenty. Now shim the pipe and stuff it down into the hull rod holder. Your fly rod should slide down into that slot, with the reel bottoming out on the bottom of the slot just above the hull level.

Works great. Been using them for years on my fly rods and have nothing but great things to say about them.

Thanks for the tip. That's just what I did. Found some 1.5" diameter and followed your instructions. Only wish I got a thinner wall as the cork handle catches a little bit. Still, I was able to file it down. A lot cheaper and more secure than a Scotty in those holes.
