So i am now the proud owner of a gently used revo 13 i have plans to take it off shore, and wanted to know how waterproof the front hatch is? can anyone give me any info? |

It sheds water very well. Obviously, it's not going to be submergible for any length of time and remain watertight. |

Tom is right, the shape of the hatch and bow do a lot to prevent water from swamping the hull's Interior, but water will still get in if you are crashing through the surf, or if you capsize. The bin for the front hatch can help to catch water that finds its way under the hatch in the surf scenario though. Good luck and congrats on the yak. |

I wonder if anyone has tried just taping a garbage bag around the opening for the hatch. Water would go into the bag instead of the hull. Larger stuff would go under the bag, and smaller stuff in the bag. Would keep the hull dry especially on the islands. Just a thought Bob Update: I just tried it with a Glad tall kitchen bag, the opening is a little too large (bag ripped), maybe if I tried one of those force flex stretchy bags, it might work. just stretch the red plastic draw string thingy over the lip on the hull and put the lid on. I also tried a 30 gallon green garbage bag, that bag was too big. Next I'm going to try saran wrap with rubber hose stretched over the hatch opening to hold the saran wrap tight. I seldom put anything in there anyway except my dry bag with flares and tools, and seldom need to access on the water. Everytime I go out I get about a cup or two of water in the hull, and have to vacuum it out when I get home. Oh well it was worth a try. Bob |
