Post subject:  2015 weights

Hello,

something hurts me about 2015 yak's weights.

Sport : 24 kg fully hull and 30 kg fully rigged.
Outback : 35.5 kg fully hull and 41.5 kg fully rigged.
Revolution 11 : 25.9 kg fully hull and 31.9 kg fully rigged.

1/ How can Outback have 9 kg of hull more than a Sport?
2/ How Revo 11, which is approx. 10% smaller than an Outback can have 10 kg of hull less than an Outback

:?:

I've owned one of each, let me see if I can help.

Sport vs Outback (similar shape, different length and capacity)
Sport length is 2.92m and the Outback is 3.68m, making the Outback roughly 25% longer.
Sport width is 0.75m and the Outback is 0.84m, making the Outback just under 14% wider.
Sport weighs 24.04kg versus Outback's 35.38kg, making the Outback roughly 46% heavier.

Now that the facts are there, you can see the Outback is significantly larger than the Sport. I do not know enough about the material used for the hulls, but its only natural that the Outback be heavier. 46% heavier... eh, I am surprised by that too. I do wish they could bring the weight down.

Revo11 versus Outback (totally different shape)
Revo11 length is 3.51m versus Outback's 3.68, Outback is therefore 5% longer.
Revo11 width is 0.74m versus Outback's 0.84m, Outback is therefore 14% wider.
Revo11 weight is 28.85kg versus Outback's 35.38kg, making the Outback 22% heavier.

However, they are such a dissimilar hull shape, the Revo11 is like a rapier compared to the Outback being a broadsword lol.
But I think the difference in width is the common factor for weight gain when you look at the three models this way.

I think about the hull weight a lot since I often have trouble with my lower back, and all of my kayaks are transported on the roof of my SUV.
