Post subject:  Question on Hobie Outback on Craigslist

Hi Everyone, first post on the forums. Discovered Hobie Kayaks a few weeks ago and have been scouring the CL adds trying to find one reasonably priced.

I found these Outbacks on craigslist and my initial reaction was that it seemed like a really good deal. Then after doing research I could not find the style of Kayak until I hit 2000. So in all reality assuming these are manufactured in 2000 and look halfway decent, what is a reasonable offer? $1000 does not seem appropriate.

Appreciate any input and apologize if I posted to the wrong section for this question.

Thanks
Gabe

They look in good shape, but you need to check the drive well area VERY carefully. There is a know cracking problem if the kayak was used incorrectly.
Read about "drive well cracks"

PS
I have one like the ones being sold and it works great.

Looking at the Mirage Drives in the pictures, 2 of them appear to be version 1 drives. One looks like a version 2 drive. The Version 2 drive is what they showed in the Hobie catalog picture. The version 2 Mirage Drive can be upgraded to the "Glide" technology (ball bearings) where the older models cannot. Great point about checking the Mirage Drive opening for any issues. They do look very clean and well kept in the pictures.

$1000 for the outback seems like a REALLY good price. I sold my 2006 Sport for $900 in Florida just a couple weeks ago. Mine had the beach wheels but everything else was stock. It had been used for fishing quite a bit but was still in excellent condition, garage kept.

I got a Pro Angler.
