Maybe it is climate change or El NiƱo or whatever, but I hope it keeps up. Been killing them late this August around St. Louis. It been in the low 90's with water temps in the mid 80's. The big bass have been hanging out in around 15' of water, mostly on the windward side of shallow selves. Rapala DT-10, 6 and 4 have been my go to big fish lures. My dad said something profound the other day, you have to fish for big bass to catch big bass. He meant if you catching nothing but dinks, change tactics, locations and lures. Catching a bunch of little fish can be fun, but catching a few big ones is what makes it awesome. Over the last 3 days I have caught a 4lb 11oz and 4lb 6oz along with a bunch of 2.5+ pounders. I just wanted to share, because this is what it is all about. Oh yeah, I wanted to expound on my dads advice. If you want to catch big bass, You Have To Be On The Water! Thanks Hobie, this PA14 has opened up fishing in a big way. I actually hope for windy days and love fishing into the wind off the shelves. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I need to clean and wash the kayak, but have become superstitious, thinking it might just have the right amount of stink on it to attract the fish. Still a couple days left to find that 5 pounder. |

Better some days than others, that's fishing. Getting ready to head to salt water in a couple of weeks, looking forward to that haven't caught a saltwater fish since I moved here from Tampa 32 years ago. I'll be back the third week of October. Let me know. |
