Plugged my brand new Elite-7 Ti into one of my 2 month old Duracel Ultra 12v 9ah batteries, and the touch screen will not work. That is unless I out a finger on one of the battery posts. Anyone else have this issue? It is almost like this 9ah does not have the power to run the display and touch screen at the same time, and by touching the battery post, I am changing the impedance of my finger relative to the touch screen capacitors. (Yeah, that sounds like mumbo jumbo to me too.) I found a couple of post on Lowrance's site mentioning this, and people have no issue when they use the bigger car batteries in their boat... But the posts were also referencing the HDS 7 Gen //'s. Anyone have an Elite 7 Ti that has experienced this problem? I am wondering if I am going to need to add my second battery in series with the first, to provide more power. I am a network engineer, not electrical. Electrical has always gone over my head. Anyone know of a better, stronger 12v I should get? I would really like one the same form factor as my current one which fits perfectly in Hobie battery holder. |

Your not on the water so your not grounded properly. To operate out of the water you need to just touch the yellow 2nd ground wire while operating without the ducer. The TI only calls for 500mah. Your 9ah battery is way more than enough, should give you 5 to 8 hours of operating time. For a cheap light LiPo battery, that should give you 30 hours of operation, see my recent post on this forum talking about it. viewtopic.php?f=26&t=57044 |

Yup, dummy here just figured that out! I had a hard time believing that a standard 12v battery would not be able to drive the touch screen. But just sitting the battery on the floor created enough ground to make this thing work. I am sure being on the water with the transducer submerged will work even better... Sigh of relief... oh, and thanks for responding so quickly! |

For everyone's information, I also just found Lowrance's response to this on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knlUP4ckLu8 Nice job Lowrance! Covered exactly what I was all bent out of shape about. Update: I installed the unit in my PA14 this evening. The ground in the kayak is more than good enough that the touch screen works like a dream without even being in the water. |
