This happened to a friend of mine out on the first day of fishing with his new 2017 Outback.....didn't take long.... Broke off with the threads inside. Simple fix,, but hope it's just an isolated break...and doesn't happen to more people. I did notice that if the fins are spread and one pulls the reverse chord, it's more difficult than the with the fins straight down. ImageImage

Yeah... if over tightened during install we have seen some fail. You will need the shifter and the pull tab.

dogdad, did this fault render the drive unusable, or was it still able to be used in one direction only?

That part is only the shifter extension. You just have to reach a bit further and pull the shifter itself. No problem... still functions normally.

@mmiller...I m just wondering how one can over tighten the device...once the two are "butted up" , how can it get further tightened? Maybe not big enough threads?

Threading in tighter sheared the threads or cracked them for later failure.
