Post subject:  Dents in new Outback

A few weeks ago I purchased a Camo Outback. After getting it home I noticed a dent on the bottom. The dent location is on one of the outside pontoons (I don't know what else to call it) approximately next to the transceiver cover.

The vendor took it back to "get the dent out" and after a week had not worked on it so they swapped it out for another new one. Maybe I am just being paranoid now, but the outside pontoons just don't feel smooth. There are some "wavy" spots on them at about the same location as the original dents. Not bad, but still for the money, not perfect. The vendor told me that this is normal, and "as good as it gets".

From some other reading I gather the these minor dents might disappear when the weather gets hot, and I could also put more in just by transporting it in the heat, but then those will pop out too. I live in Sacramento, CA where we have 100+ degree days so I guess I had better get used to it.

So my question is does this sound normal to you more experienced Hobie people?

Thanks, TL

If it moves straight in the water and the plastic isn't thinned out- no worries. Hopefully you get to use it a lot and beat it up. I have had a few different brands and the bottom gets beat up when you use them. Hard not to get a solid response without pics, but I wouldn't bother worrying if it works right.

Once its covered in scratches and gouges you wont notice.
