Starting to gather some tackle for trolling the beach and slightly off-shore in my kayak, any one have any favorites and/or tips to share?

Don't worry, I won't ask for your spots, yet.. 
I'm on the east coast, but I'm willing to try any techniques. Sometimes the baits and techniques from other regions work best, as the fish aren't used to them!
