Looking at my gear track on my outback I see the width of the slot from the end to the center open up as you near the center. Being concerned of a rod holder placed in that track to be popped off. (Have read and seen videos to support this) Is there a preferred rod holder/base to use? I have omega pro or ram mount holders I use. I really don’t want to lose a rod holder or an outfit if a fish were to hit a trolled bait and pull it free from the track. I may just use the h rail for now but there seems to me that the outside tracks are basically only for non stressed applications. Am I over thinking?

This is not the case with our 2020 Outback. The slot in the gear track is the same width throughout with the exception of the widened slot in the center for attaching the bungee keepers or other gear track accessories. If yours have a larger slot you'll just have to make sure you look under the gear track after attaching the rod holder and make sure the t-bolt is perpendicular to the track and that should hold it. Another option could be to use a Railblaza Starport Tracloader. This will give you 2 mounting points instead of one.

If you are going to be fishing for any fish north of 5 lbs keep in mind the gear track (on the 2019 and newer Outbacks) is just attached to the kayak with screws. Using something like the Starport Tracloader can also help reduce the stress to the gear track (which is attached with screws) from the strike.
