Looks great Ted. What lakes do you usually kayak on? This red tide we are having is getting on my nerves, maybe I should take a freshwater cruise. |

I focus on Hodges. It is very tough ever since the water rose. Fish are scattered big time and hard to get. I had a good day about a month ago however. A 6, 4, 3, 3, and 2.5 pounds of bass. I rig Yamamoto Fat Ikas reverse style with 15lb Seaguar Carbon Pro line on a 7 foot MH baitcast outfit. |

Hi Ted - Great photos. I noticed in your third photo that the Outback has a handle on the outside edge of the kayak just above the paddle bungee holder. Did you put that handle there or did it come on the kayak? |

That was installed by Dan at Carlsbad Paddle Sports, where I bought it. It has come in real handy...no pun intended!

I forgot Hodges has water in it. It's been a few years. We ride our mountain bikes at Lake Dixon and have talked to the rangers quite a few times about the bass fishing there. Dixon, like many SD County lakes, are city reservoirs so you can't kayak on them. The rangers think it's possible for a world record largemouth to come out of Dixon because they eat the DFG trout that are planted there and get pretty big. There are a couple of feeder ponds near the main lake where fishing is not allowed that seem to hold some pretty big fish. Not sure which lakes you can kayak on; Perris, I think you can, maybe that new reservior. Maybe I'll take a ride out Del Dios one of these days and check it out. |

You will be stunned if you haven't seen it for a while. Again, the bass fishing is tough now with the fish being very scattered. The surface area of the lake increased many times over this past winter making new habitat but also spreading out the fish. In 3 years this lake will be full of nice 3-5 pound bass. Lot's of baitfish in the water now. |

That sounds good to me. Somebody will have to stick their garden hose in the lake then to make sure it doesn't go dry again. |

Ronbo613... I have some very good news for you! All of the San Diego resevoirs are open to kayak fishing!! I fish several of them from my kayaks. A couple of weeks ago I rented a lake boat at El Capitan and towed my SIK to the north end to fish for crappies out of the yak. Here's a shot of that trip on one beautiful day.

That sounds great. I always thought you couldn't kayak on them because you are not allowed to come in contact with the water. Might be time to break out the old freshwater gear. |

i have fished lower otay, lake morena, lake cuyamacca, and am going to try lake miramar this weekend. So far the only lake you cant kayak in is diamond reservior. check with metro water district and S.D parks & rec department, its a 5.00 boat launch fee but you can launch anywhere. |
