Post subject: | Sailing the Tandem Kayak |
Thanks for the posting on rigging ideas. My main concern is tenderness of the craft. I live on a lake with fluky winds, gusts,-- all around not an ideal sailing lake, but it's home. Has anyone, including the Hobie Corp. come up with a suitable outrigger similar to the EasyRider kayaks system out of Seattle, WA? I find the tandem with sail to be very tender and hard to get back into when knocked over. Maybe I'm too old for this much fun. |

Outrigger options: Depending on how crafty you are. http://www.fyneboatkits.com/trolleyed/6/45/ This guy will sail anything http://www.sailboatstogo.com/index.php A couple of tandum sailing configurations with oth SIK and SOT http://www.kayaksite.com/sails.html KFS sells an outrigger kit. The site also provides some pics of Outbacks fitted with the kit. http://www.kayakfishingstuff.com Responce from Hobie on the Outback, when I requested similar information: Glad you like your Outbacks. It is something that we have been thinking about, but we do not have any definite plans at the moment to put an out rigger on the Outback. Hey Jim, Don't know if you saw my earlier post on installing outriggers on the Outback. No reason they would not work on a tandem. Something to consider... http://www.hobiecat.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=1548 |
