Being a largeish person (just under 300#), I like the security of sidekicks even when peddle/paddling. I experimented with them off in shallow water and found there not to be an easily discernable "point of no return" as I leaned over. In other words, the vessel demonstrated that it was more stable in the inverted position. The problem is the outriggers get in the way of a full paddle stroke. Would reversing the mounting bar so the middle hole faces backwards give enough relief with the amas in the middle position (due to the bend of the rods arching backwards instead of forwards)? Has anyone mounted them forward of the sail mast tube on an Outback SUV? Bartman |

I have cross bars mounted both fore and aft on my Revo 13 which gives me the option to mount them in either place. I'm guessing you'll do better with them mounted forward. |

I rarely paddle. I normally use the mirage drive. I also use the sail, but this weekend as there was no wind I was forced to use the paddle. They do interfere. You can move the mounts from behind the seat to behind the mast to give more room for paddle. I like them there, they offer a place to secure items. I mostly use the drive and leave the paddle in the sling on the side. Good luck. |

On my Revo 13, I mount the Sidekicks on YakAttack Geartracs so it is easy to attach them and adjust the placement as needed. Not sure how it would translate onto an Outback, but I have found that mounting them just forward of the rear hatch keeps them far enough away to not interfere with paddling, but close enough to adjust the height setting. |

if the wind dies I reef up the sail, deflate the sidekicks and stow them in the boat and paddle off into the sunset! CC |
