I have the sail and Hobie's furling kit for my Outback. Nice for the days when I'd like to go up in coves or creeks and the TI is a bit much. However I wonder how much wear the mast pocket or mast can take?
I've only used the sail twice, first time no furling due to very low wind but the second time I was adjusting it frequently as I do on the TI. (Between adjusting for the gusty winds and furling for going into coves.) When I pulled the mast I noticed the paint is already worn away from the bottom of the mast in a couple rings.
That has me wondering, is there a risk of damage to the sail pocket from "excessive furling"?
I did spray the bottom of the mast with some silicone lube to reduce the friction some, though it's still pretty stiff. (Really surprised how smoothly the Hobie furler works, considering that.)
