Here's my application. Have owned two Tandem Islands used only in Inland lake sailing. As I aged my arm was sore for days afterwards. Changed to semi-rigid inflatables and moved to near the coast (Dana Point and Newport Beach harbors in Orange County, Southern California). I always boat with spouse or neighbor; never alone. I stay in harbors to avoid the excitement of swells and waves. I know I need to get the kayak sail kit, turbo fins for the Mirage drives, and sailing rudder. I'm also considering the stability kit, and furling kit (if I can find one), otherwise, I'll have to DIY. I'm even considering the small Watersnake T24 with kayak mount trolling motor. What am I missing? |

I have an Oasis with sail kit, furler, sailing rudder, amas, chartplotter, and other mods. If you are at all flexible, the furler is not needed and really doesn't work that well. You can just lean forward and quickly turn the mast by hand. I usually just do this even with the furler. Do note that a comfortable seating position for the forward passenger may put their seatback against the mast so they may need to recline seat forward while you furl or unfurl. The Oasis sails okay on the beam, and really great downwind. But the mast is too far aft to point much upwind unless you rig a jib of some sort. If you search the forum for my posts there are several pictures of the mods I have made. Currently I am using the Hobie (Torqedo) Evolve motor on the rudder. Peter |
