We plan to store our H20 at Lake Canyon Yacht Club with the mast up for a good portion of the year. Should we coat the Comptip with anything to protect it from UV? A cover wouldn't be practical, with how hard it would be to remove and reinstall every time we want to sail. Thanks. |

I would shoot it with rattle can spray paint in the color of your choosing. Otherwise the fiberglass will eventually break down from UV exposure. sm |

Do you think it matters what kind of paint? Latex vs enamel? |

I'm not an expert in paints. I would just use Rustoleum or Krylon spray paint for plastic. Something suitable for outdoor use. That's what I did to clean up a comptip that had spent years in the sun and that I was planning to store for the season with the mast up. The paint lasted for a couple years and once it started to deteriorate, I just gave it a light sanding, masked it off, and re-shot it. You just need something that will stop the UV from penetrating into the fiberglass. sm |
