Has anyone made a wrap to contain the downhaul lines and main halyard lines while trailering? I need to make or buy something, my lines are a flapping in the breeze mess.

I just wrap the main halyard around the mast, from top to bottom. Rather than going directly straight from top to bottom. Halyard will also tie down the Jib and side stays to the mast in my boat.

You can also just connect the main halyard ring to the top downhaul block and pull the downhaul up to take up all of the loose downhaul line. You will still end up with a few feet of halyard tail that needs to be coiled or wrapped around the mast for storage.

I watched a windsurfer have his loose downhaul line get caught under a moving front tire. This resulted in a broken mast, mast base, a broken roof rack, and damage to the car. I was trying to find the best way to contain even coiled lines to prevent such a mishap.

The only way to be sure on lines not coming off the trailer when on the highway is to tie them down. Personally I use zip ties on all my rigging after coiling the rigging up. A more reusable approach would be bungee cords or small lines and tie knots.

I take everything off the mast except the main halyard and I use plastic wrap and duct tape to secure the rotator arm and the down haul cleats

The plastic wrap with a hand full of wraps is surprisingly strong. I've never had any trouble with it coming lose. I like that it keeps the road grime off the mast too

My set up time is about 2x with the mast fully rigged but it's much less worry when trailering. It was such a head ache to make sure all the rigging wouldn't work lose on the road

Here's a pic of my mast base before loading the mast onto the trailer

Bungee ball straps work well and are fast.

Easy to make if you need a custom length.
